Who we are

BetterNorth AI (“BetterNorth”) is a job search workspace for clients of Better Careers, a career coaching service in Australia, and their coaches. This policy explains what personal information BetterNorth and the BetterNorth Job Clipper for Chrome collect, how it is used and who can see it. We handle it in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What we collect

The Chrome clipper

The BetterNorth Job Clipper only runs when you click its icon. It then reads the job ad on the page you have open (job title, company, link and description) so you can check it, and sends it to your tracker only when you press Add. It stores your BetterNorth address and a connection token in Chrome on your device. It does not read other tabs or your browsing history, and does not collect anything in the background. You can disconnect it at any time with Disconnect under Chrome clipper in BetterNorth.

How we use it

We don't sell your information or share it with employers. Anything an employer sees, you send yourself.

Who can see it

Your workspace is visible only to you and the coaches you add to it. Better Careers staff who run BetterNorth may access it to support you or keep the service working.

AI providers and where your data is kept

Your workspace is stored in a database hosted in Sydney, Australia (Supabase). The app itself runs on Vercel, which may handle requests outside Australia. When you use an AI feature, the content it needs (for example the job ad and the relevant parts of your answers or resume) is sent to an AI provider to produce the result: Anthropic (Claude) on the Pro plan and Groq on the Lite plan, both based in the United States. These providers process it to return the result and, under their terms for business use, don't use it to train their models. Company briefs look up public information about the company, not about you.

Keeping it safe

Information is encrypted in transit, access is limited to the members of each workspace, and clipper connection tokens are stored in hashed form. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we'll tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as the law requires.

Access, correction and deletion

You can see and edit most of your information in BetterNorth at any time. To get a copy of it, correct it, or close your account and delete your information, email winnie@bettercareers.com.au. We'll respond within 30 days. We keep your information while your account is open, and delete it when you ask us to, unless the law requires us to keep it.

Questions and complaints

Contact us at winnie@bettercareers.com.au. If you're not happy with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and tell you in BetterNorth about anything significant.
